Fixtures Cancelled, SGM Called.

E-mail Print

All opening day league fixtures are cancelled, the only games that will be played are Lancashire Sunday Trophy games. There will now be a Special General Meeting of the league on Tuesday 8th September 8.15pm prompt at Rochdale Catholic Club. The meeting will be held to determine once and for all the league formation for the coming season. After numerous attempts by the committee to finalise the formation and following a vote at the last league meeting, clubs are still not happy and are still complaining. As a committee we feel we have done everything in our power to try and accommodate requests from all clubs and to try and make the divisions as fair and competitive as possible. So far it has proved an impossible task to keep everyone happy, so now it is time for the clubs to decide.

ALL CLUBS MUST have a representative at the meeting, if you do not attend you will not have a say on what division you are placed in and you WILL be fined £25 without exception. We are extremely disappointed that we have had to take this extraordinary step but feel we have no other choice as ultimately we are here to provide amateur football in the area, and we want this league to be run in a fair and organised manner that the clubs are happy with. IT'S YOUR LEAGUE, you MUST attend this meeting and have your say or accept the consequences !

Ian Jopson

We are sad to report the passing of former Dog & Partridge manager Ian (Joppy) Jopson. Indeed, the whole of the Rochdale football family were shocked and saddened to hear the news that Joppy had sadly passed away after a short illness aged only 66.

Joppy was one of, if not the most successful Rochdale Sunday League manager to date. He took over as manager of Dog & Partridge in 1998 following their promotion to the Premier Division. The Dog hadn't won a game in their first five fixtures and were rooted to the bottom of the league. Following a bit of organisation and tactics the Dog won their first game vs former champions Dicken Green which prompted a recovery that saw them finish 4th and win the first of five league cups, as they knocked out league champions Heywood Casuals and beat former Lancashire Trophy winners Littleborough in the final. The next season they again won the league cup beating Greyhound 3-1 in the final and this was followed by the start of a dynasty as Dog eventually changed their name to Copperpot and became the top side in the town. In 2001 they won the Premier Division on the final day of the season with Littleborough, Top House, Heywood Casuals and Greyhound all vying for the title in the last weekend. They added the league cup again and the Lancashire Sunday Trophy to cap an amazing season for a team that one Sunday league personality had said three years earlier "would never win a game in the premier ".

Joppy retired from management in 2005 with an impressive haul in his seven years of management of five consecutive premier division titles, five league cups, one FJ Williams Trophy, one Lancashire Sunday Trophy and one Inter County Cup, with runners up trophies in another Lancashire Trophy and the Champion of Champions Trophy. Ian was also an accomplished player for many years in Rochdale until the age of 47 representing many teams such as Tanners Arms, Plough, Bay Horse and Kirkholt to name a few.

He will be sadly missed but never forgotten and all involved with the league would like to offer our deepest sympathy and our condolences to his family and friends. Ian's funeral will take place this Friday 21st August 3pm at Rochdale Crematorium followed by drinks in the Ratcliffe Arms.

The league are delighted to announce that SUN CHEMICAL have kindly offered to provide significant sponsorship covering three divisions and one cup competition for season 2015/16.

Sun Chemical, a member of the DIC group, is the world’s largest producer of printing inks and pigments. They are a leading provider of materials to packaging, publication, coatings, plastics, cosmetics and other industrial markets, including electronic materials, functional and speciality coatings, brand protection and product authentication technologies.

Sun Chemical have more than 8,000 employees supporting customers around the world and a network of more than 250 locations in 56 countries, including their large manufacturing site based in Milnrow. The site in Milnrow employs many local people and manufactures many ink coating products as well as supplying the coloured inks used in production of the Daily Mail. In fact you will probably be handling Sun Chemical inks most days without even realising it, as they are a massive supplier of the inks used to print the packaging on the majority of foods you will buy in your local supermarket, and their inks are used on many famous brands that you will buy week in, week out. To learn more about Sun Chemical visit www.sunchemical.com.

The Management Committee would like to place on record their sincere appreciation to the Local Leadership Team at Sun Chemical in Milnrow for their generosity and also to League Secretary Andy Palombo for his efforts in securing this agreement.

In view of the extent of this sponsorship the league will now be known as The Sun Chemical Rochdale & District Sunday Football League.

Over 20 clubs have still not registered any players for this season. This is now becoming a major problem as the Registrations Secretary will no doubt receive an influx of late registrations which will mean she has a tremendous workload to get through in a short space of time before the season starts. At least 16 players per team should have been registered by the 31st July at the latest, however this deadline will now be extended to the 8th August before Ellen starts to fine teams. Some clubs missed the AGM and still haven't collected their forms, if you are one of them you need to contact Ellen urgently as both yourselves and the other clubs who have not registered any players are in grave danger of having no players signed on in time for the season which is expected to kick off on the first Sunday in September.

Revised League Formation 2015/16 - Updated

E-mail Print

After clubs voted at the league meeting to drop a division and move to just three divisions there were still teams unhappy at the revised formation and further changes have now been made. The Premier Division will now be comprised of eight teams who will play each other three times in the league. Divisions One and Two will both be made up of fourteen teams who will play each other twice as per normal. This is the final league formation and it will not be changed again no matter what, so if you're not happy please don't waste your time phoning the committee as IT WILL NOT BE CHANGED. Final league formation can be seen by clicking here.

Pitch Applications

E-mail Print

It has been brought to the league's attention that a number of teams who play on RMBC pitches have still not applied for renewal of their pitch lease for this season. If you are one of the teams who haven't applied it's imperative that you apply immediately. Please contact Andrea Leach urgently on 01706 922064 to submit your application.

League Formation 2015/16

E-mail Print

After much discussion the league formation for this season has finally been decided. The divisions have had to be reorganised this season after we lost a number of teams during and at the end of last season. With most teams having been lost from the higher divisions it has meant we have had to move teams up the divisions in order to fill the gaps. We have also dropped a division in order to give teams more games and more chance to raise revenue. So before you complain about being moved, please take note that many of the teams in your division will also have moved with you or will be of a similiar standard. We have tried to treat all clubs fairly and attempted to make the divisions as competitive and equally balanced as possible, so best of luck to you all for the season ahead.
